November 5th 2013 - JB Jazz & Blues Band
Fireworks at the Fisherman s Rest came via the instruments and voices of the members of the JB Jazz and Blues Band on November 5th. A full house - (including Frank the dog) enjoyed an evening of music and comedy from John Beckingham (piano), Paul Holder (drums), Roger Mainwaring - "The Hat man" - (saxes and clarinet), Phil Probert (guitar and banjo), and new to us Syd Greenfield (stand up bass) - but most notably all fine vocalists.
We are so privileged to hear musicians of this calibre whose enthusiasm and obvious love of performing their own unique interpretation of familiar jazz and blues music gives so much enjoyment. They gave us lively numbers like Dr Jazz, Sweet Sue and Dinah, harmony in Pennies from Heaven, smooth and dreamy love songs and foot tappers - you name it, they gave it.
And finally to conclude their fantastic performance, the audience was invited to raise the roof and sing "Enjoy yourself - it s later than you think." We sang our hearts out and I think I speak for everyone in saying that we certainly did enjoy listening to JB Jazz and Blues Band.
We look forward to a return visit next year. Thank you for coming.
Just for the record the band travelled all the way from the Gloucester area to play for us, and unfortunately John had a blow out on the A38 and eventually got home at 4am on Wednesday morning - such is their dedication to their art.
